The Celebrity Squad kicked off their Match preparation with some beach training today. It was just like watching Brazil.
One player who didn't enjoy the seaside was Dane Bowers who confessed
to having a sand phobia. While everyone else trained in shorts, Dane
kept his tracksuit bottoms on because he can't stand the feel of the
stuff.
"I've got sand all over my face," he complained. "It's in my hair, my
ears, my nose. It's bulls***!"
But Dane wasn't the only one to step out of the comfort zone. After a
rigorous training session on the beach, Graham Taylor ordered the
entire squad into the freezing North Sea.
Running into the waves there were some less than manly squeals. But to
their credit, they did what they were told and most returned refreshed
by the experience.
Will Mellor described the cold. "Me legs went instantly numb," he said.
"Me nuts... I think they're still in there."
Training included volleyball, jogging, sprinting and plenty of work
with the ball. A keepy uppy session was won by Harvey and Darren
Campbell, who kept up a constant stream of banter throughout. Darren,
in particular, showed his competitive streak, wanting to win at
everything.
Stepping out of the water in just their shorts, Luther demanded the
players produce the playing cards they were given yesterday, and told
they must keep on them at all times. Luther caught several players out,
including Anthony Hutton, Alex Lawler and David Jones.
Danny Young had earlier made the mistake of keeping his card in his
kneepad. As he trained, he sweated and the card disintegrated. He, and the other offenders will now have to face a jury to decide their fate.
