Steve Brookstein became the second player to be dropped from the squad tonight as a greatly relieved Iwan Thomas and Patrick McGuiness dodged the bullet in an incredibly close vote.

Thomas was the first to be spared, having polled the most votes. McGuiness hugged Brookstein when he heard the news, but Brookstein didn't look totally surprised at the verdict.

He hung his head down as he entered the studio to meet Zoe and Mark and admitted he thought his departure was "on the cards".

Steve also revealed that he "found it hard to connect with some of the guys" in the squad. He wouldn't name names but did say, "There were individuals I didn't get on with."

He told Zoe and Mark that he was more of a one-to-one kind of guy, so the rough and tumble of a blokey football squad hadn't suited his personality.

He did feel he was getting better thanks to the Training Camp and manager Graham Taylor said he had a "good left foot". Graham did note that he hadn't gelled with everyone in the squad though.

Steve said it still been "a lot of fun" and that playing against Newcastle United's first team had been "amazing".

Clearly upset to be missing out on the chance to play at St James' Park, Steve found losing out on such a prize hard to take.

After Sam's departure, Graham Taylor announced the next three players to be put on the bench: Jim Alexander, Patrick McGuiness and Phil Tufnell.

The player with the least votes will become the third to be dropped from the squad. Make sure you vote for who you want to save.
