Graham clasps his hands News

In an exclusive interview with The Match website, Graham Taylor has begged the public to sway tonight's vote.
Graham Taylor has pleaded with the public to help him choose a team that has a chance of competing with the Legends.

Graham explained his reasons for placing Jim Alexander, Phil Tufnell and Patrick McGuiness on the bench and it’s not happy reading for one of the keepers.

Talking exclusively to The Match website the manager insisted that he doesn’t need three goalkeepers in a squad of 17 players and one of them has to go – and that unlucky man is Phil Tufnell.

“I make no bones about this, I’m pleading with people,” Graham said, “If you are going to give us a chance, get the goalkeeping situation sorted out.

“Phil is injured, he’s not as good as Jim Alexander and he’s absolutely knackered.”

Graham realised his tactics might fail and Phil could end up getting the sympathy vote, but from a footballing point of view it was essential that this dilemma was sorted out – and fast.

“The goalkeeper's position being such a vital position, it is important we get it right for football reasons. Jim Alexander is the better goalkeeper.

“We laugh and joke because Phil is such a popular person and he is a funny man, and I can understand why people would vote for him, but my plea is we're not actually voting to have the funny men in. We're voting for the best footballers. If you're really on the celebrity side and want them to do well, we want to make sure we vote from a footballing point of view.”

It’s in your hands.
