The head to head battles between key players in crucial areas of the pitch could be decisive in tonight's big game.
|
With kick off just a few hours away we take a look at the key match ups that could determine who comes out on top.
Darren Campbell v Des Walker
This battle will be one to watch. Darren Campbell represents the cutting edge of the Celebs' side up front and Des Walker will need all his experience to keep him quiet. While Campbell's pace will be no surprise - he is one of the fastest men in the world - dealing with it is another matter. Des Walker is also quick but it's his positional sense that will crucial to counter Campbell's speed.
Campbell's not just fast, he's also skilful. He's a good dribbler, who links up well with Harvey. But how he reacts to the first crunching Walker challenge will also be important.
Ben Shephard v Peter Reid
Ben Shephard has had an impressive training camp. His ability to win the ball back from the Legends and give it to a teammate will be essential if the Celebs are to have a platform for success. He must protect the back four much like Peter Reid used to.
Reid's fitness level has to be in doubt but if he can hold off Shephard and retain possession, the Legends could pass their way around the Celebs all night.
Jonathan Wilkes v David Batty
We can expect David Batty to be as tenacious as ever and his battle with Celebs' skipper Jonathan Wilkes is likely to be the most physical. Batty will look to close down Wilkes and make sure he doesn't have to room to score the kind of goal he did last year.
Wilkes will need to show the same leadership he did last year but Batty's ability to keep moves going with simple passes is key. If Batty makes sure the ball does the work, the Legends could triumph.
