BIOGRAPHY
Peter Beardsley was always the striker other strikers wanted to play with. His speed of thought, selflessness and killer final balls made him the ultimate striking partner. But he wasn't just about setting up goals. Throughout a glittering career he hit an incredible 267 goals.
Two-footed and blessed with an intuitive footballing brain, Beardsley excelled in two spells at his hometown club of Newcastle, as well as Liverpool and Everton. He formed a deadly partnership with Andy Cole at Newcastle but will perhaps best be remembered for providing the ammunition to Gary Lineker in a fearsome partnership for England. His ability to bring out the best in his teammates led to his gaining 59 caps for his country. His incredible fitness level saw him make nearly 900 appearances.
