BIOGRAPHY
In the mid 1980s Neville Southall was regarded by many as the greatest goalkeeper in the world. At Everton he was the cornerstone of a side that won two League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners Cup. He also won the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award in 1985.
On the international scene Southall was equally dominant. Between 1982-97 he was Wales’ first choice goalkeeper, notching up a record 92 caps. When he retired in 2002 at the age of 43, the British game said goodbye to one of the best goalkeepers in its history.
