“You’ll never beat Des Walker” was the frequent chant from Forest fans as the pacy defender established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe. His performances for Brian Clough’s side earned him 59 caps for his country and a move to Serie A with Sampdoria.
At the World Cup in Italy in 1990, he appeared in all seven matches as England reached the semi-finals. The following season he helped Forest reach the FA Cup Final, before his Italian move. After serving Sheffield Wednesday with distinction, Walker returned to Forest to finish a distinguished career spanning 21 years.
