Ingredients
1 pair of 8mm needles
4 balls of pinkish paper
1 ball of red rag
100m reel of red thread
100m reel of pink thread
Holder
Abbreviations:
K1- Knit 1 stitch, (or however many stitches indicated)
P1- Purl 1 stitch, (or however many stitches indicated)
K2 tog- Knit 2 stitches together.
Yon('s)- yarn over needle (more than one)
St(s)- Stitch(es)
Rem- Remaining
Technique:
Holey Lace Stitch
Row 1: K1, * k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last stitch k1.
Row 2: P1, *p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last stitch, p1.
Recipe
1. Knit a 10cm tension square in holey lace stitch, using 8mm needles.
Follow the technique above.
Cast on 14 stitches
Work 15 rows in holey lace stitch
Cast off.
2. Nip & Pin is knitted in one piece as follows:
Cast on 114 stitches
Work 33 rows in holey lace stitch
Neck:
Row 1: P1, *p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last 61sts, p1 and
turn leaving rem 60 stitches on a holder or a contrasting piece of wool.
Row 2: Cast off 3 stitches knitways, k1,*k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat
from* to last stitch, k1. 51 sts.
Row 3: P1,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last 2 stitches, p2.
Row 4: Cast off 3 stitches knitways, k2, *k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat
from* to last stitch, k1. 48 sts.
Row 5: P1,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last 3 stitches, p3.
Row 6: Cast off 3 stitches knitways, k3, *k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog,
repeat from * to last stitch, k1. 45 sts.
Row 7: P1 *p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last 4 stitches, p4.
Row 8: Cast off 2 stitches knitways, k1,*k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog,
repeat from* to last stitch, k1.
Row 9: P1,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last 2 stitches, p2.
Row 10: K2* k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last stitch, k1.
Repeat rows 9 & 10 another 10 times.
Repeat row 9.
Leave rem 43 stitches on a holder or a piece of yarn.
Shape other side of neck:
Rejoin yarn in the centre with the wrong side of your knitting facing,
cast off 6 stitches,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last stitch,
p1. 54 sts.
Row 2: K1, *k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last stitch, k1.
Row 3: Cast off 3 stitches, p1,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1,
repeat from* to last stitch, p1. 51 sts.
Row 4: K1,*k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last 2 stitches, k2.
Row 5: Cast off 3 stitches, k1, p1, *p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1,
repeat from* to last stitch, p1. 48 sts.
Row 6: K1, *k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last 3 stitches, k3.
Row 7: Cast off 3 stitches, p1, k1, *p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1,
repeat from* to last stitch, p1. 45 sts.
Row 8: K1, *k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last 4 stitches, k4.
Row 9: Cast off 2 stitches, p1,*p1, (p1, k1) into yon's, p1,
repeat from* to last stitch, p1. 43 sts.
Row 10: K1,*k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last 2 stitches, k2.
Row 11: P2,*p1 (p1, k1) into yon's, p1, repeat from* to last stitch, p1.
Repeat rows 10 & 11 another 10 times.
Back:
Repeat row 10 of above, then cast on 28 stitches, next with the right side of
your work facing, work the stitches from your holder or piece of yarn.
K2,*k2 tog, yon twice, k2 tog, repeat from* to last stitch, k1. 114 sts.
Work 63 rows in holey lace stitch. Begin with a wrong side row.
Cast off.
3. Press pieces
4. Take a length of paper & thread through the bottom of the neckline,
then pull to gather up the knitting.
Tie end & stitch into the back of your knitting.
5. Rag brooch:
Cut 22 pieces of rag, each 12cm long.
Stitch them together in the shape of a fan
6. Stitch the fan shape onto your gathered neck line.
