1743

It's a dark and cold night and the towers of Medenham Hall loom up over the lake. The lady of the house, Rachel McBain, rushes down the staircase out into the night. She enters a stone building in the grounds where the African slaves live. In the corner, a voodoo priest is performing a sacrificial ceremony. Suddenly Julius, one of the slaves, seizes Rachel and, oozing with sexuality, lifts her gown and presses his body into hers. Rachel doesn't resist this passionate encounter, which is clearly not the first. While Julius makes love to her, Rachel watches the voodoo priest transfixed as he slashes the throat of a cockerel.

Fast forward to the present day and Medenham Hall is a very different place. Gone are the slaves and upper class residents; in their place now stand students at the sixth form boarding school. The majority of the students belong to "The Crowd", except two clear outsiders: Cassie and her best friend Thelma. Thelma is an outsider for a very clear reason: she is a lesbian with a crush on Cassie, however the reasons behind Cassie's exclusion are vague - somehow she is just different. Despite this, Cassie longs to be part of The Crowd, especially to be close to one person - Troy.

But Cassie's chances with Troy are slim, and look even slimmer when she overhears his occasional girlfriend Gemma brag that only she is allowed to sleep with Troy - and he has fully agreed to the pact. Finding somewhere to clear her head in the school's grounds, Cassie lights a cigarette and leans back against a wall, knocking something out. Cassie stoops to discover what she has found: it's something that will change her life forever.

What has Cassie discovered? Will she ever get the guy? Or will Thelma succeed in taking their friendship to the next level? Tune in on Sunday 17th October at 9:00pm on Sky One to find out.
