An Enterprising idea
Enterprise takes us to the 22nd century, a time when interstellar travel is still in its infancy.
Set a hundred years before the original "Star Trek" series, Enterprise follows the adventures of the first warp-five starship and its crew of galactic pioneers. Taking its cue from the Paramount feature film "Star Trek: First Contact", Enterprise takes place several decades after Earth's first successful, faster-than-light space flight, a milestone that attracted the attention of an advanced alien species familiar to "Star Trek" fans, the Vulcans. The Vulcans subtly discouraged humans from going too far too fast, but despite their misgivings, Enterprise NX-01 inaugurated a new age of discovery.
Led by the passionate and strong-willed Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), the Enterprise crew includes Sub-Commander T'Pol (Jolene Blalock), a Vulcan Science Officer who believes humans aren't quite ready for the challenges of deep space; Chief Engineer Charles "Trip" Tucker, III (Connor Trinneer), a Southerner and longtime friend to the Captain, Lieutenant Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating), a British Armory Officer whose buttoned-down manner belies his great affection for munitions, the Helmsman, Ensign Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery), an enthusiastic "space boomer" who grew up on cargo ships; Communications Officer Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), who has an extraordinary gift for alien languages; and Doctor Phlox (John Billingsley), an alien who practices an unconventional brand of galactic medicine.
In its first season, Enterprise garnered vast critical and audience acclaim and soared off the ratings chart to become UPN's number one drama series in the U.S. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, and has proved a real hit with both original and new Star Trek fans.
Series 4 is coming to Sky One in January, until then look out for repeats of series 1-3.
