Wet & Wild – Hovercraft Rev-Head Challenge
Out on the mist-laden lake this morning, Ms Dynamite and Les met in a Hovercraft head-to-head that left them both sopping wet. Dynamite was first to hit the water in practice and she appeared to have quickly mastered the craft before she came out of the water too fast and collided with a fence.
Les meanwhile demonstrated all of the flair one would expect of a fully qualified helicopter pilot, executing perfect turns and generally appearing to be a hot favourite to hit all of the numbered markers (a 10 second penalty would be imposed for each marker missed) and to complete the course in the quickest time. Team Captain Eddie, true to form, was vocally boasting of his man’s ability to bring home the bonus 5 points up for grabs for the boys team.
In the final practice laps, Les was an easy winner, beating Dynamite’s time of 4 minutes (and 6 markers missed) by more than 60 seconds (Les only missed 2 markers on his circuit). Come The Race proper, Les began confidently, sailing down the hill and through marker one. However at the second marker on the edge of the lake, Les’s cock-sureness got the best of him, causing him to lose control and hit the water at speed and sideways (a Hovering no-no apparently). There was a puff of smoke from his engine cutting out, leaving a forlorn Les going nowhere and adrift in the middle of the lake.
Thus Dynamite had only to complete the course to win. She began smoothly, hitting the first marker, then narrowly missing the second. Once on the water she sailed round the course before emerging from the lake to tackle the final hill. With Team Captain DC willing her on from the pits, she seemed to have it nailed until she ground to a halt half way up the slope, where she remained beached and stationary for an agonizing 60 seconds.
Thankfully for the girls though, she managed to get her craft moving once more to complete a famous victory over Sir Les and win the 5 bonus points for herself and her team.
