Tuesday PM - Monster Truck Mayhem
Emotions ran high today at Silverstone as the contestants’ plans of racing the Monster Trucks were dashed when, in the first head to head, Ingrid flipped and totalled her vehicle, Big Foot UK. Onlookers held their breath as the emergency team rushed in, but fears were quelled when news came round that Ingrid was not only fine, but laughing as she emerged from the vehicle, causing Jenny to proudly declare, “Ingrid rocks!” One of the technicians commented after the incident that the trucks are “designed for a rollover like that”, with every measure of safety being taken.
Before the races began, a demonstration by the Monster Truck professionals prompted Nigel to call for Jamil, the sports psychologist. The advice they’d been hearing (for example, “When in doubt, power out”) meant that the celebs were justifiably nervous about what lay ahead. Before the racing commenced Melissa and Jenny ran onto the obstacle course to vandalize a car without the help of a Monster Truck. As Melissa said of her eager teammate, “She wanted to break something”.
Once everyone was confident Ingrid was alright after her spectacular wipe-out, the course was cleared of the flipped truck and the car wreck obstacles. It was decided that the event would now be decided by a one-on-one Hot Lap race in the remaining (undamaged) Monster Truck, Lil’ Devil.
Nick and Miss D. were chosen by their team captains to compete with Nick edging out Miss Dynamite, who had difficulty getting around the curve, causing her to run over a haystack. Tuesday proved to be another victorious day for Team Irvine, but if Ingrid’s pre-accident performance and Jenny’s enthusiasm are any indication, Team Coulthard will be staging a comeback in tomorrow’s Hovercraft Rev-Head Challenge and Mini 7’s Main Event.
