Web Chat 1 | Web Chat 2 | Web Chat 3
EventManager:Welcome to tonight's live chat with Paul McKenna -- please send in your questions for Paul now!
Paul: Thank you very much, it's very nice to be here - hopefully the equipment won't let us down this week! I'm looking forward to talking to everybody!
Christinamanic: I'm a housewife and find that I snack and eat out of boredom, how can I stop this?
Paul: The best way to do this is to use the TFT tapping technique that was on tonight's programme. You can also find this on the Sky One website -- your snacking to change the way you feel. But in future, all you need to do is whenever you find yourself doing this, stop, tap the acupuncture points and just over a minute later the craving will have completely disappeared -- and you will be back in control. It's ok, it's something lots of people do. In our culture, everyone uses something to change how they feel at some time -- drinking, gambling, smoking, even shopping. However, doing it excessively has consequences. Take back control and use the amazing tapping technique.
Lelley: Is it ok to snack between meals?
Paul: The answer is very simple: when you are TRULY hungry, go and eat. If you just want to change the way you feel, you're not truly hungry. In which case, use the TFT tapping technique and eliminate your craving.
Barumjeffries: Can hypnosis speed up your metabolism?
Paul: Metabolism is not fixed, contrary to the belief of some people. Scientific research has shown it can be altered...
Paul: If you've continually dieted, it's highly likely you will have slowed your metabolism through starving yourself. By eating when you are truly hungry, you will tell your body there is always enough food and it will speed up your metabolism. I believe there are several ways to speed up your metabolism -- but this is the most important thing for you to know right now!
Lisa: Will this series be available on DVD?
Paul: I've no plans to release it on DVD, but everything that I am telling you in this series is available in my book and CD I Can Make You Thin...
EventManager: I think I saw that on the top ten on Amazon, Paul?
Paul: Yes! It's number one!
Lelley: What is the exact routine of the TFT?
Paul: Think about what it is that you crave... rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. Then, tap above one of your eyes about 10 times whilst you think about what it is your crave. Tap under the eye... tap the collar bone... tap the side of the hand (karate-chop point). Tap the back of your hand.. keep thinking about what it is you crave... then close your eyes... open your eyes... Keep tapping the back of your hand. Look down to the right; then look down to the left. Keep tapping the back of your hand, rotate your eyes 360 degrees clockwise, and 360 degrees anti-clockwise. Hum the bars of a tune. Keep tapping your hand.. count out loud from 1 to 5... Hum the bars of a tune again. Then stop and check to see how much your craving has reduced. You may have to repeat this process several times until it completely disappears - the more often you do, the quicker the craving will go.
Searon: Can you repeat the sequence for the tapping technique again please?
Paul: As above!
Jil523: Any tips to make visualizing the thinner me easier?
Paul: Everyone can visualise - think about your front door. Which side is the handle on - the left or the right? In order to remember that, you had to visualise it. Sometimes people try to visualise a new them that's too thin... Imagine a you just a little bit thinner. Say a few pounds lighter... and then another that's a few pounds lighter, and so on. Do it in small stages.
Skatzo: Do you use this technique yourself?
Paul: Yes, absolutely -- I used it for any situations of emotional overwhelm.
Iriam: How can I start to enjoy exercise? I hate the gym.
Paul: That's really in week four - so standby. As far as I am concerned exercise doesn't have to mean going to the gym. Aerobic exercise is anything that gets your heart breathing faster and you breathing more deeply. If you take 2,000 steps or more each day (15 minutes walking), you're getting as much exercise as a naturally thin person.
Twelsh7898: How can I lose a significant amount of weight in a very short amount of time without getting bypass surgery?
Paul: There are lots of ways to lose weight quick -- but it's very very likely that you'll put it back on again. You didn't get overweight overnight therefore the only way to lose it is gradually. But using my system it will almost certainly come off and stay off.
Iwantthatbody: I have been finding the techniques amazing however I have been over weight most of my adult life so will my body know when it has reached its ideal weight?
Paul: Absolutely. Within every human being there is a blueprint for the shape and size you should be. Not everyone should look like a supermodel - indeed less than 1% of the population have the genetic inheritance to do so. Not only will you reach the shape and size that is healthy and appropriate for you, using this system you will feel good about yourself.
Kirkby1red: I don't crave any specific food - just food in general which I can eat non-stop, even when not hungry. Would tapping technique work for me?
Paul: You need to follow the four golden rules: When you're truly hungry, eat. When you're not, don't eat. If you're craving food, it's because you want to change how you feel. Use the tapping technique.
Sal40: Am I allowed to eat in the evening quite late?
Paul: I refer you to rule number one: When you are truly hungry, eat. I don't care when it is - you have got to re-sensitise to your body. My agent lost 5 stone using this system. The other night we were at a fashionable lounge bar and he ordered a bowl of chips. He ate them slowly and consciously - and let half the bowl. I asked if he didn't like his chips -- he replied: it's your bloody fault! I have to stop eating when I'm full!
Rob Askew: Do you have any tips on helping with the visualisations?(I close my eyes but cannot project an image)
Paul: I refer you to the front-door technique above Rob. Visualisation is just the same as remembering what it would be like if you were back there again now.
Clive1954: I don't have a craving as such but often I feel like I just want to eat 'something'. Its more the taste and the feeling of food in my mouth. Any suggestions, please.
Paul: When you are TRULY hungry, eat. Otherwise, if you have a temptation to put food in your mouth, use the tapping technique to remove it.
Pinkypye: What can you do on days when you don’t feel hungry?
Paul: I very much doubt there will be an entire day when you don't feel hungry -- if this is the case, you've radically de-sensitized yourself to your body's signals. It's important that you begin listening to your body again. Nobody goes a whole day without feeling hungry.
Dianekay: Why can't I get to grips with the four golden rules?
Paul: Maybe you are trying too hard... just do the best you can, make contact with somebody who is doing it and buddy up with them.
Sal40: When is the best time to listen to the CD that accompanies the program?
Paul: I recommend say when you get in from work in the early evening, or as you fall asleep at night. The CD will dramatically enhance your chances of success.
Ping: I've been finding your show helpful in explaining why we do certain things and our eating patterns etc. What I find I can't handle in my own eating behaviour is I seem unable to allow myself to enjoy food without guilt on a daily basis.
Paul: This will soon pass - it's probably a product of your childhood conditioning or from too much dieting. By the power vested in me by myself, I absolve you from all food sins from this day forth. Go forth and enjoy a life of indulgent foods my child.
Barumjeffries: What do you cover at your weight loss seminars?
Paul: Many of the things that you have seen so far and will see in this series are covered at the weight loss seminars. However there are some other techniques and the experience is very dynamic and powerful given that it's a large group of people in a live event situation. In addition, I have a team of trained assistants who are there to help me and help you make powerful changes in your life. I highly recommend it as an entertaining and life changing experience.
Carol: For some reason, although I desperately want to loose weight, I feel comfort from my flab. I can hide in it, if that makes sense. How does someone who feels this way break through this 'comfort zone' please? Many thanks.
Paul: This is not uncommon -- it may be that you put on the weight for a specific reason. However, listening to the CD that comes with my book will make powerful and important changes in your unconscious mind. You do not have to lose it all at once, a bit at a time at a rate which feels safe and comfortable for you. Good luck!
140979: Does the tapping technique work for depression, anxiety and phobias?
Paul: It certainly does. I recommend Dr Callahan's book Tapping The Healer Within.
Jules: Presumably puddings are banned as I am no longer hungry, but I like the taste! Help!
Paul: No food is banned in my system. But if you're not truly hungry, then obviously you wouldn't eat. If you're thinking about a taste and you have a craving desire... simply tap it away.
Alwayshungry: What can I do to stop me from feeling hungry all the time?
Paul: The belief that you feel hungry all the time will be a product of continual dieting. Remember a time you felt very hungry, remember a time that you felt totally stuffed... compare the two several times... and this will help to re-sensitize you. It sounds like you may be craving food for comfort reasons in which case, tap, if the feeling disappears, it was just a craving -- if it doesn't disappear, then you are genuinely hungry. So go and eat! Also, by using the CD that comes with my book, it will help to reset your internal hunger thermostat.
Fatty: Will tapping improve my memory?
Paul: No, it's not designed for that -- but there are lots of good techniques for that.
Alyseg: Is the point of leaving some food on your plate to shrink the stomach and create a sense of control?
Paul: To create a sense of control is definitely true. The only way to lose weight is to eat less and move your body more. By trying to use will power, you will almost certainly fail. Most diets fail because they rely on will power alone. We all know what foods we should and shouldn't eat, yet the majority of people can't stick to diets. We have to change the way we feel on the inside. Weight loss is a human behaviour issue and involves reconditioning - which is what this system is about. Eventually as you eat less, your stomach will shrink, that is true. But not through starving yourself - rather to listening from the signal from your tummy that you've had enough instead of overriding like you have in the past.
Jasmyn : I have a 6-month old baby and am finding it hard to stick to the slower eating pattern as I just about have enough time to make it - I therefore end up snacking. Have you any suggestions?
Paul: If you cannot find a few minutes each day to eat slowly, stay overweight.
Mariadee: Do you have any techniques to get small boys to eat their vegetables?
Paul: I'm not interested in such things.
SarahHill: Can I use the tapping technique to help me give up smoking?
Paul: Yes, it's excellent for helping people quit smoking. Hypnosis has been statistically proven to be the best technique - but I have to say tapping is fantastic. TFT is the original and by far the most superior technique in my opinion.
Time4: Can hypnosis ever give a complete cure for agoraphobia?
Paul: Of course! But it's not hypnosis that will cure you - it's a good practitioner - hypnosis is only a tool. But in the hands of someone who is highly skilled, it would absolutely do it.
Louisa: Do you follow the plan yourselff?
Paul: I'm a naturally thin person and so this system reflects the way that I eat.
Joolz : How can I keep focused when there is no one like you there helping me?
Paul: You don't need any will power - you don't need to believe this system. You just need to remember the four golden rules. Occasionally you might forget - that's ok, just go back to using the four golden rules again. If you need extra support, get my book which contains a CD called I Can Make You Thin.
Gill: Will our attitude to food be changed permanently or will we need to reinforce it all the time?
Paul: It should, within a few days, be noticeably different. Within a few weeks it would be virtually impossible to go back to how it was. You didn't get overweight overnight. So it will take you a little while to change. Once you've changed, you will change for good.
Time4: Does TFT ONLY work if food toxins are banned from your diet?
Paul: That's not my belief.
Annie Rowie: I don't have food cravings and really eat a fantastic diet, but I do eat fast, and am struggling to slow down even when placing cutlery on table. My whole life is fast, and so it is more than a food thing. Any suggestions?
Paul: Keep at it - if need be have a friend sit there and coach you through the process of slowing down. After a short while it will become second nature. If you continue to eat fast, you'll stay overweight. If you put other things before your health, there are serious consequences. Slow down.
Barumjeffries: What is your new book Instant Confidence about?
Paul: Confidence is something that I believe everybody could do with more of. I'm not talking about assertiveness - we've all met those arseholes who come off a power weekend and are in our face that's not real confidence. Confidence is feeling comfortable within your own skin, feeling ok with who you are.
It's also having enough inner belief to ask someone out on a date, give a presentation to a group of people, talk to your boss, etc., etc. If you want to reduce your fear and increase your self-belief... then this book is for you.
Babyweight: Does it matter that I can only manage 14 chews of my food instead of 20?
Paul: No, the general idea is to slow your eating speed down.
Stephrats: Enjoying the program. However I struggle sometimes to tell the difference between genuine and emotional hunger. Have you any tips?
Paul: That's ok, everybody does. Just do your best for now. May I suggest this: When you are not sure whether you're really hungry or not -- tap on the TFT acupuncture points. If the feeling disappears, it was emotional hunger. If it doesn't, you're genuinely hungry - go and eat.
Markandsarah: Where did you learn your techniques?
Paul: I have developed this system over 15 years. I observed the differences between people who were overweight and people who were naturally thin. Some of the techniques I used I developed myself working with private clients. The rest of the techniques, I learnt from geniuses such as Dr Richard Bandler and Dr Roger Callaghan. The elements come from different people, but the composition of the system is unique. I'm continually refining it -- and I expect to have some small additions and deletions in due course.
RachelHellis: Is it okay to still chew gum or suck on sweets... I was just wondering because of all the chewing and your tummy thinking you've got food?
Paul: I don't have a problem with it.
Smarse: How can I persuade my partner to take this diet seriously?
Paul: It's not your job to persuade your partner - I believe it's important to be an example to others. That may help.
Fareast: How much weight can you lose?
Paul: However much you need to.
Kat: I hate leaving food, can I just serve much smaller portions?
Paul: No, no, no, no. That's the mentality of dieting. It's very important that your stomach dictates to tell you when to stop by telling you it's full. Eat with your stomach, not eyes... if you feel guilty, tap the feeling of guilt away.
EventManager: We've got just 15 minute to go before we have to end -- are you enjoying the chat Paul?
Paul: Yes I am -- it's really nice to have this opportunity to talk to everybody -- something we can't do on the show itself but with all the interactive technology we have today, it's now possible!
Denyse: I have read two of your books, the problems for me are all related to self confidence and self esteem, whenever you ask us to look in a mirror, or to imagine good things, I just come to a complete stop. How can I get over this problem?
Paul: I'd need to know more about your problem, however may I recommend that you see one of my colleagues - contact my training company: 0845 230 20 22. Ask for a referral to somebody in your area. It doesn't sound like I can give you what you need in a web chat - you may need some one-to-one help with one of my colleagues. Or in the meantime, try my new book: Instant Confidence. Best of luck!
Soontobeslinky: When out on an evening out, I sometimes choose to go a bit mad and have a fair few drinks, will my body compensate for all these additional calories I have consumed on a night out??
You are not overweight because you’re drinking, there are plenty of thin alcoholics. I'd rather that you didn't go unconscious when you eat by drinking at mealtimes whilst you are recalibrating your eating. However don't beat yourself up if you do - it's ok to have a few drinks. If you suspect you have an alcohol problem, there are plenty of people who can help these days.
Redwitch: No question, just to say I feel so positive after watching your programme, I will start your techniques
Paul: Thank you - I feel very uplifted hearing that. As you can tell, I am very passionate about this system I have developed. It's not only for commercial reasons that I do this. It's because I genuinely believe I can make a significant difference to people's lives. Dieting has proven after 40 years of research to be inherently flawed. My system has a massive statistical success rate and I feel driven to help as many people lose weight and feel better about themselves. I intend to start a revolution in the way we think about weight loss.
Nightjester: Why cut out cravings for coke, chocolate etc when nothing is forbidden?
Paul: Correct - nothing is forbidden! But if you are eating foods when you are not hungry, that is forbidden. If you are eating a food that's say rich in sugar to change the way you feel, you are treating the food like a drug rather than a nutrient. If you crave this food when you are not hungry, it has power over you and you are addicted. I'm suggesting you take back control. The TFT technique is one of the best ways that you can do that.
If you're genuinely hungry and you want a particular food, eat it. If you're not and you're craving food to change the way you feel, you're not hungry for food - you're hungry for something else, maybe love. Listen to what the emotion is telling you - if necessary take action or reduce it with the tapping technique.
EventManager: There are just five minutes left before we have to end tonight's chat. Please keep your questions coming in.
Pagey: Will you be putting the TFT tapping points online or are they in your book?
Paul: They are in my book and they should be on the Sky One website.
Yummi-mummi: Been following the rules since last week and have stopped snacking!
Paul: Great! The main thing is: Do you feel more in control around food? Are you eating less? Do you have more energy. Sometimes it takes a week or two before you really realise how well the system is working. So it's ok to wonder how well it's working for the first week or so.
Bitterman: I live a very busy life and find I am rushed at mealtimes. This makes it very difficult to eat mindfully and consciously. Do you have any advice?
Paul: If you can't spare a few minutes to eat slowly and consciously, stay overweight. It's about time you started to put yourself first, rather than your ‘busy life’. What could possibly be more important than your health?
Beynon: I own a sweet shop. can't keep tapping all day. Or squeezing my fingers. I don't drink. I don't smoke, but I love chocolate. What else can I do that can help?
Paul: Hahahaha! Follow the four golden rules. If you are eating when you are not hungry, use the compulsion busting techniques - create negative associations to the chocolate so that you don't feel like you have to have it, you can take it or leave it.
Constantine: And just to let you know Paul, we are watching you in Croatia, :-) so keep in mind you have public all over Europe actually who appreciate your work.
Paul: Thank you, that's lovely to hear, I am so pleased that you are enjoying the show. Making a positive difference to peoples’ lives is what I get up for every morning. It fills me with inspiration to know that my message is travelling around the world. I have big plans for this planet. God bless you!
RachelHellis: More of a thank you really to Paul. I bought the book for New Year and listen to the CD religiously and it really works - I can't thank Paul enough :)
Paul: Thank you very much, I really appreciate all the kind comments. I sometimes read the positive reviews on Amazon when I'm having a challenging day! I find they keep me on track. God bless you all for anyone that's sent me a positive message.
Step: Can children follow the four rules?
Paul: Children learn not so much from what you tell them but from example. I thoroughly recommend this for children. If I had my way, every child would learn it in school.
Purplerb: I've got your I Can Make You Thin CD - should I be listening to this every day?
Paul: Yes, I recommend you listen to it every day. Not only will it help you change your eating patterns, but it will fill you with confidence and self belief, more emotional equilibrium and emotional happiness.
EventManager: Thank you everyone...
Paul: Thank you to everyone -- I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to answer everyone's questions... I will be here for the next two weeks. Alternatively you can find more information on the Sky One website or at my website, www.paulmckenna.com.
EventManager: Thank you for taking the time to join us Paul!
Paul: You're most welcome! To everyone: May your dearest wishes come true, I hope we meet someday. Good night and god bless. I hope you enjoy next week's show.
EventManager: I'm afraid that's all we have time for. Thank you all for participating. We'll be here at 10pm on Monday after Paul's show... so if you didn't get your question answered be sure to get it in early next time!
