'Welcome to the Discworld.
It started out as a parody of all the fantasy that was around in the big boom of the early 1980s, then turned into a satire on just about everything, and even I don't know what it is now. I do know that in that time there has been at least four people promoted as "new Terry Pratchetts" so for all I know I may not even still be me..'
~ Terry Pratchett
Born in Buckinghamshire in 1948, fantasy fiction author Terry Pratchett's book sales now total over 46,000,000 and rising, worldwide.
One of the most popular authors writing today, Terry lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire and says 'he doesn't want to get a life because it feels like he's living three already'. Appointed an OBE in 1998, he was awarded the 2001 Carnegie Medal for his first Discworld book for Children, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents.
He is the second most read author in Britain today, with sales of over 2,500,000 books per annum in the United Kingdom alone. Yet amazingly, not one of his 35 Discworld novels has been made as a live-action film for his legions of fans. until now.
Terry has always been very protective of the rights to his multi-textured books, but following numerous meetings over the last year, the Mob Film Company has been granted the worldwide exclusive rights to Hogfather, his 20th Discworld blockbuster novel.
With a fan base spreading around the globe, the series of 35 Discworld books has been translated into over 30 languages with key territories for sales including the UK, USA, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and the Czech Republic.
Additionally, sales of Discworld books in the United States have increased by over 600 per cent in the last two years, meaning that Terry is now the seventh most read non-US based author in all of America.
With this new production of Hogfather as the first live-action film of Discworld - Sky One is set to not only delight millions of existing and loyal Pratchett fans, but also introduce a whole new legion to the Discworld universe. |
